Do tire chains help on ice with R1 tires or do they get 'lost' between the bars treads?

They are meant to be used in fields in deep snow and ice. I'd look at a smaller type link with support between the cross chains to hold them in place better. ....

imtools go to tirechains.com look at the diamond style or the Duo-grip chains. These styles do not drop down into the tread. The also have the best prices. ....
